Well drilling and water supply project in rural

As a watersupply project, we aim to solve the domestic water problem of local ruralresidents. Most of the villages involved are located in remote places, far awayfrom the cities where centralized water supply is adopted. So it is difficultfor the urban pipe network to extend to this point. Besides, there has been noqualified water supply facilities for a long time. The water supply facilitiesin these villages are seriously insufficient and backward. In addition, thepopulation growth is too fast, and the water for living and other purposes isalso insufficient seriously. The basic living conditions of the people cann’tbe satisfied.

Theproposed new water supply system involves 12 villages in 14 regions of Senegal, namely Diorbel, Fatick, Kaolak, Kolda, Tambacounda, Thiès, Ziguinchor, Matam, kaffrine, Louga, Saint Louis and Sédhiou. There are 181 water supply systems intotal. Each water supply system is mainly composed of wells, water towers, water transmission and distribution pipelines and water distributionfacilities.

Inaddition, the rural water supply in Senegal has been dominated by groundwaterfor many years. Some wells have been built and operated for many years, exceeding the designed service life, resulting in insufficient water output orno water flow at all. After inspection, the damage is serious and cannot berepaired. There are 70 wells of this type involved in the project, which arewidely distributed. It is also one of the tasks of the project to reconstructthese wells and restore their water supply capacity.

The maincontents of this report include two parts: new water supply system andreconstruction of old wells. The new system is mainly composed of well areaengineering, water transmission and distribution pipeline engineering and waterdistribution facilities engineering, but does not include water qualitytreatment content except disinfection. The reconstruction part of old wellsmainly involves the reconstruction of some existing wells (Only includingwells, water pumps and power Transformation& Distribution system, excludingpump room).
